Semperfli Spyder thread has been a long loved thread for tiny flies. Now we have taken it to the next level with 18/0 Classic Waxed. Classic Waxed, a traditional tying thread, was specially developed to be semi translucent so that the threads help adopt the shade of the fly pattern. 18/0 Classic Waxed has 2 fine strands of thread twisted together. It has a breaking strain of approximately 400gm – for comparison tests show Uni Caenis to have a breaking strain of 85g & Danville Spiderweb breaking strain is approximately 142gm. The strength of 18/0 Classic Waxed in comparison will give the fly tyer confidence when tying small flies that their thread will hold better. With 2 strands Classic Waxed will also lay reasonably flat when tying flies. Classic Waxed is aimed for fly tyers wanting to tie small flies as an alternative to threads like Uni Caenis or Whisp which are weaker threads. In developing 18/0 Classic Waxed the team wanted a micro thread which had some strength, laid flat Semperfli’s 18/0 Classic Waxed thread sets a new standard for tiny fly tying. This traditional waxed thread features two fine strands twisted together, delivering approximately 400g breaking strain significantly stronger than comparable micro threads like Uni Caenis (85g) or Spiderweb (142g). Semi-translucent construction allows the thread to adopt the shade of your fly pattern, while the dual-strand design lays flat for clean, precise wraps. Ideal for small flies where strength and control matter, this thread gives tyers confidence their work will hold without sacrificing the delicate appearance small patterns demand.
